| Posted by chinaview on July 18, 2009 By Shaun Tandon (AFP) , July 28, 2009- WASHINGTON — Ten years after China banned the Falun Gong spiritual movement, the two sides are waging a battle both at home and abroad where the group has become a nagging thorn in Beijing’s side. Falun Gong has taken its case straight to the Western street, where rallies highlighting the group’s signature breathing exercises and grisly photos of purported victims of China’s crackdown have become a fixture. Falun Gong has tried to show its strength ahead of the anniversary of China’s ban on July 20, 1999, with thousands of supporters converging on Washington in yellow shirts for public speeches, prayers and vigils. Sixty-two members of the US Congress signed a letter to President Barack Obama to denounce “one of the most unjust and cruel persecutions of our times.” The lawmakers called on the Obama administration to speak out to China to end “the extreme brutality of the persecution faced by Falungong practitioners.” Even for China, which in the past two years has witnessed deadly unrest involving Uighur and Tibetan minorities, Falun Gong remains an especially sensitive topic and is rarely mentioned by state media. Unveiled in 1992 by Li Hongzhi, who now lives quietly in the New York area, Falungong emphasizes moral teachings and Qigong, slow graceful movements (and sometimes breathing techniques), to promote the circulation of qi within the human body, and enhance a practitioner’s overall health. It was once encouraged by Chinese authorities to ease the burden on a creaky health system. However, aghast after thousands of Falungong supporters gathered in Beijing to protest against persecution, China’s then president Jiang Zemin issued orders in 1999 to eliminate the group. China later declared it an “evil cult.” Falungong says that more than 3,200 practitioners have since died from persecution and that Chinese authorities have harvested their organs. While it is impossible to independently verify each case, Falun Gong supporters and relatives speak of constant monitoring and harassment. Jin Pang, 26, a Chinese student in the United States, said her mother was taken away with some 100 other Falungong practitioners in the eastern city of Weifang in July last year ahead of the Beijing Olympics. She has not heard from her mother since. Jin, who has sought help from dozens of US politicians, fears the worst. She said police held her mother for 11 days in 2001 and beat her with electric batons that burned her body. She said her mother was freed after police demanded 2,000 yuan (300 dollars) from the family……. Posted by chinaview on July 19, 2009 Clive Ansley, US-Canada President, Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong in China (CIPFG ), Via Canada Free Press, July 18, 2009 - July 20, 2009 marks an important anniversary. But unlike most anniversaries, this is not a happy one, and provides no occasion for celebration. Ten years ago, on July 20th, 1999 the Chinese Communist Party launched a genocidal campaign of torture, mass murder, and ultimately of genocide directed against some seventy to one hundred million Falun Gong practitioners in China. This pogrom has continued unabated now for a full decade while the world has stood silently by, averted its eyes and essentially re-enacted the “see no evil, speak no evil, see no evil” cowardice and avarice which characterized the callous indifference of the world during the 1930’s to the growing evidence of the coming Nazi holocaust against the Jewish people. Just as William Lyon Mackenzie King refused to allow any Jewish refugees to disembark in Canada, Canadian politicians at every level of government today demonstrate their unprincipled and craven willingness to succor the most bloodthirsty and barbarous regime since the Nazi era. In the face of substantial and uncontradicted evidence that the Beijing police state has murdered tens of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners on the operating tables of China’s hospitals in order to harvest their organs for lucrative profits on the international transplant market; and as the most vicious and unprecedented campaign of persecution and terror against China’s lawyers unfolds before our eyes, disbarring, torturing, incarcerating and “disappearing” incredibly courageous human rights lawyers, what do our unprincipled politicians and our “Fourth Estate” have to say? What do the representatives of the legal profession in democratic countries have to say? The mass murder of healthy Falun Gong practitioners for the sole purpose of plundering their organs constitutes the greatest Crime against Humanity since the Holocaust; the brutal persecution, terrorization, and repression of the entire “Rights Protection” bar in China constitutes the single greatest affront to the Rule of Law which the world has witnessed in a long time. As the documentation of these crimes continues to grow exponentially, politicians such as Bob Rae assure us that while there are still some human rights problems in China, Beijing is making substantial progress and the human rights situation is improving significantly. Our current Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Cannon, thinks we should avoid publicly embarrassing the Beijing dictators about little things like organ harvesting and the bestial torture and disbarment of human rights lawyers. The Canadian Bar Association and some provincial law societies (with the commendable exception of the Law Society of Upper Canada) have remained totally mute with respect to the treatment of their Chinese colleagues; indeed various CBA representatives continue to peddle the errant and vapid nonsense that China is committed to the Rule of Law and that reform of China’s spurious and fraudulent “legal” system is progressing at an impressive pace. And the Fourth Estate? The pathetic North American media has been virtually mute throughout this full decade of organ theft and genocide committed by Beijing. Hardly a word has ever appeared in print and scarcely a whisper of this mass atrocity has been heard on the television networks or cable services. In terms of sheer undeniable newsworthiness, it is irrefutably the biggest story of this century. Yet it is apparently a taboo topic in our derelict media. We are informed that those conscientious reporters who turn in stories on the persecution are told by their editors that their papers will not touch this topic. Instead of offering comfort and support to the innocent victims of Beijing’s bestiality, unprincipled politicians such as those on Vancouver City Council turn the victims into the culprits and curry favour with Beijing. This is the holocaust all over again. The Beijing Olympics was the Berlin Olympics of 1936 all over again. Those who do not recognize this parallel are limited to the willfully blind; the morally bankrupt; and the profoundly ignorant. And I want to end by coming back to the report—‘Bloody Harvest’—by David Matas and David Kilgour. This report MUST be addressed seriously and extensively by the North American media. The credibility of the authors of this report is simply not in question—David Matas is perhaps the leading human rights lawyer in Canada; David Kilgour is a former Secretary of State for Far Eastern affairs in Canada; both are lawyers; and they have impeccable credentials. This is not coming from the National Enquirer or Fox News; this is coming from sources that are simply unimpeachable. And given the horrendous nature of the allegations—and the unimpeachable sources which have produced the report—crime cannot be legitimately ignored by legitimate journalists. It must be debated. Journalists are entitled to dispute the methods of the Kilgour-Matas research; they have not done so. Journalists are entitled to criticize the nature of the evidence; they have not done so. Journalists are entitled to produce contrary evidence; they have not done so. But what the legitimate media is not entitled to do is to leave their readers and viewers uninformed about credible and compelling evidence of a new holocaust. United States: Rally in Washington DC Calls for End of Persecution By Liu Bin and Huang Kaili
On July 20th, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched a brutal persecution of Falun Gong. Prior to the 10th anniversary of the start of the persecution, more than 1,000 Falun Gong practitioners, nine US Congressmen, and representatives from more than 10 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) held a rally on Capitol Hill in Washington DC, calling upon people to recognise the evil nature of the CCP and calling for the end of the persecution. The rally started at 9:30 in the morning. Falun Gong practitioners demonstrated the peaceful exercises. At noon, practitioners held up dozen of banners with the messages, "Stop the Persecution of Falun Gong," and, "Bring Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Zhou Yongkang and Liu Jing to Justice." U.S. Congressmen, representatives from NGOs and other supporters attended the rally. They expressed their respect to Falun Gong practitioners for their spirit and continuous efforts to clarifying the truth. Ten years ago, when the persecution had just started, Falun Gong practitioners gathered on Capitol Hill, telling people the facts about Falun Gong and exposing the persecution in China. Since then, practitioners have come here every year, clarifying the truth to the U.S. Congress and calling for an end to the persecution. Congressmen thank practitioners for their efforts to protect Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance Dana Rohrabacher, Congressman from California, and a member of the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs, gave a speech. He said that as officials elected by the people, they represent people's moral principles. Falun Gong practitioners' right of belief is given by God. He said that we stand together with Falun Gong practitioners, and the American people and US Congress stand together with them. He thanked practitioners for their efforts to protect the truth. The congressman noted that during the 10-year persecution, practitioners still have courage. He said that their efforts have drawn the attention of concerned people all over the world; it is a power which can change the world. Christopher Smith, Congressman from New Jersey, addressed the rally. He thanked practitioners for coming to Washington, letting the whole world witness their suffering. Congressman Smith said that when the persecution started in 1999, few people knew what Falun Gong was. The CCP's persecution has cause more than 3,000 deaths. Many practitioners are imprisoned. Mr. Smith believes that the US Government and the free world should take more action to stop the suffering of Falun Gong practitioners in China. We stand with justice no matter which party we belong to Sheila Jackson Lee, Congresswoman from Texas, expressed her respect for Falun Gong for all they have done. She said that the message she hoped to pass on today is that she and her colleagues stand here together with justice, no matter which party they belong to. The congresswoman stated that she does not want to see practitioners jailed and tortured; she does not want children to have to know about violence; she does not want the world to think that people cannot have peaceful beliefs. Therefore, she was happy that every year elected representatives show their support, and more and more people are quitting the Communist Party. Sheila Jackson Lee is happy that more and more CCP members long for peace and freedom and are trying to stop the persecution. Roscoe Bartlett, Congressman from Maryland came to know about Falun Gong practitioners from their peaceful and positive mindset. He said that practitioners have visited his office many times and they have made a deep impression on him. He said they are positive and full of energy. Mr. Bartlett wondered at what keeps them so positive and energetic all the time, because he himself values and strives for those qualities. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Congresswoman from Florida and a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, said that in 2007 alone, more than 100 Falun Gong practitioners died in prison or right after being released. According to the 2008 U.S. Congress report on the human right situation in China, it was estimated that more than 250 thousand Falun Gong practitioners are jailed in labour camps, only because they practise Falun Gong. Some of those imprisoned are family members of US citizens and permanent residents. Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen noted that the persecution has been extended to America. She urges the American government to deport those who have been involved in perpetrating the persecution in this country. The congresswoman expressed that we need to stand with Falun Gong practitioners, those prisoners of conscience prisoners in China. She clearly said to the CCP: Stop persecuting Falun Gong practitioners; give the Chinese people freedom. Lincoln Diaz-Balart, Congressman from Miami, Florida, has been paying close attention to the persecution of Falun Gong. He thinks that the persecution is a shame for human beings. Congressman Diaz-Balart said that unfortunately, China, a great and wonderful country with an extraordinary culture, has been suppressed by a tyrannical power. In the brutal persecution of peaceful Falun Gong practitioners, we can see the violence of this power. He said it is a shame for human beings. Mr. Diaz-Balart expressed that it was an honor that he could attend this rally. He thanked the practitioners for coming to Washington and reminding U.S. officials of the persecution. William Lacy Clay, Congressman from Missouri, expressed that the U.S. Congress's attitude on Falun Gong issue is very clear - the illegal jailing and torture must be stopped and the persecution of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance should not exist in this great country. He stated that he came to this anti-persecution rally to show the CCP the support for Falun Gong from the US Congress. He said that representatives from the US Government must say to the CCP: Stop the persecution. Gus Bilirakis, Congressman from Florida and a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, said that Falun Gong practitioners have proven, through their behaviour and actions, that they are a peaceful group and what they ask for is their basic right. He said that practitioners do not give in to violence; they use their hearts to stop the persecution. Through the printed media, TV and the Internet, practitioners clarify the truth to people in China. Congressman Bilirakis said that he will continue his effort to fight for freedom and stop the persecution. He said he will stand with practitioners and share the principle of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Representative from NGO: Falun Gong practitioners make the world more beautiful Representatives from more than 10 non-governmental organisations and supporters of Falun Gong gave speeches at the rally. Michael Horowitz, a senior fellow from the Hudson Institute, said that history is not written by the famous people; it is written by those who bravely devote themselves to truth. He said that Falun Gong practitioners make the world more beautiful. Passersby: The persecution will be ended Many citizens and visitors attended the rally. At noon, a lot of people joined the rally and listened to the speeches. Jane, who works at a library, said she has seen the practitioners' rally every year at this time. She said, "We all know about Falun Gong and the persecution. I believe that the persecution will be ended." Hugh and Ann are tourists from Australia. They too attended the rally. Hugh said that he knew about Falun Gong. "You have done a good job. Keep it up and the persecution will be ended," he said. Background Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a traditional Chinese spiritual discipline for mind and body. The practice involves slow, gentle movements and meditation. It is easy to learn, enjoyable to practise, and free of charge. Its principles are based on Truth, Compassion, and Tolerance. The practice began in China in 1992 and quickly spread by word of mouth throughout China and then beyond. Today, Falun Gong is practised by over 100 million people in 60 countries. The main works of Falun Gong are available in over 30 languages. On July 20th, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched a brutal persecution of Falun Gong. The persecution is not only towards Falun Gong, but also aims to destroy the moral standards and human principles of all people. Since the start of the persecution, Falun Gong practitioners throughout the world have been constantly speaking out about the truth of Falun Gong and exposing the CCP's crimes in a tireless effort to end the persecution. Falun Gong: The Tenth Year of Persecution Marked on Capitol Hill By Gary Feuerberg Epoch Times Staff Jul 20, 2009
Elected officials and human rights activists rally for an end to the persecution of Falun Gong in China on Capitol Hill. The display boards at the front read 'Stop the persecution of Falun Gong.' (Ma Youzhi/The Epoch Times) WASHINGTON D.C.—Marking the tenth year since former Chinese leader, Jiang Zemin, commenced the brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China, members of Congress from both political persuasions joined speakers from human rights, religious and pro-democracy organizations on Capitol Hill, July 16, to condemn the Chinese communist regime’s harsh policies.
Falun Gong is an ancient meditation and exercise practice that had an estimated 100 million followers before the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) persecution was launched, which began publicly on July 20, 1999.
The brutal campaign was designed “to eradicate Falun Gong,” host Gail Rachlin, from the Falun Dafa Information Center, told the rally of over a thousand people. “It was a conscious and deliberate decision by [former Communist leader] Jiang Zemin and taken up by the CCP propaganda,” she said..
The tone of the rally was set early on by the first speaker, Dr. Sue Vaughn from Freedom House, an organization that has been closely monitoring the status of democratic and human civil liberties in China for several years.“Chinese citizens cannot democratically choose their leadership at any level of government…they cannot enjoy the most basic rights and civil liberties of a robust free society …cannot organize, protest or criticize their government. They cannot express their political opinion or freely practice the religion of their choice,” said Dr. Vaughn.
Congressman Chris Smith of New Jersey said, “The Chinese government in terms of pervasiveness and cruelty is the worst violator of human rights on the earth”
Rep. Smith said too many in the European community and the United States act as if the persecution of Falun Gong and other human rights abuses were not happening. “We need to remind President Obama that first and foremost [should be] human rights; trade and commerce issues come second,” he said. “The use of torture [by China] has been documented over and over again and by the United Nations, he said adding that he believed the forced abortions and sterilizations in China to be the “greatest crime against women,” making it illegal to have brothers and sisters.
Congressman Smith called for a re-examination of our trade relations with China, predicting that, “all of that grinds to a halt unless you treat your citizens with respect.”

Three Words Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart of Florida highlighted the “three words” as he pointed to one of the many signs displaying “Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance”, that were held by practitioners.
Diaz-Balart said, “These are the fundamental beliefs in Falun Gong,” contrasting the Chinese leaders who rule by “brute force” with the “peaceful followers of Falun Gong - the peaceful, religious, and democratic activists.” “Where we see the brutality ... it is an embarrassment to mankind,” Diaz-Balart said deploring democratic countries for the way they regarded China “as if it were a moral, peaceful, law abiding” country. It was even awarded the Olympics—the symbol of peace, he said, repeating “this is an embarrassment to mankind.”
Diaz-Barlat described the regime as “a regime of thugs, by thugs, for thugs”
Congresswoman Warns Chinese Diplomats in the U.S.Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL) noted that the CCP police state tactics were of the same order as the Gestapo and the KGB. She said they even send Falun Gong practitioners to mental institutions just like they did to dissidents in the former Soviet Union.
The Congresswoman also noted the man she had met who had been “beaten up by Chinese thugs” in the U.S. That man, Baiqiao Tang, who is a democracy advocate from the China Peace and Democracy Federation, spoke later and recounted how he had been attacked by four men who had come at him from several directions. When this reporter interviewed him, he still had a cast around his hand. Tang said he had also been injured around his eye and his nose. Ros-Lehtinen had a warning for the Chinese embassy and consulates in the U.S, “Any Chinese diplomat who engages in the coordination of an assault on an American citizen inside this country should be declared ‘persona non-grata’ by the State Department and sent out of the United States.”
Other Congress Members, who saw fit to break from their voting responsibilities in the House in order to attend the rally, were Gus Bilirakis (FL), Wm. Lacy Clay (MO), Anh “Joseph” Cao (LA), Roscoe Bartlett (MD), Lincoln Diaz-Balart (FL), Dana Rohrabacher (CA), and Sheila Jackson Lee (TX).
Congressmen Cummings (MD), Engel (NY), Pascrell (NJ), and Perlmutter (Colorado) provided written statements as did Senator Mark Udall (Colorado).
All of China Suffers Falun Gong practitioners, many of whom had come as far as Australia, Taiwan and Russia, listened quietly as the speakers acknowledged their long and arduous struggle.
Of special note was Geng He, the wife of renowned lawyer, Gao Zhisheng. Lawyer Gao was abducted by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Security on February 4. for seeking justice for Chinese people including Falun GONG practitioners. He has not been seen since and there are fears for his life. Geng He and their two children, however, managed to escape from China, only this year, and were awarded asylum in the U.S. “Today, I am here as Gao Zhisheng's wife, standing together with so many Falun Gong practitioners from all over the world,” Geng He said. “I can speak out what is on my mind without any danger. I can't tell you how significant this is.” “The persecution against this big group of people is beyond anyone's imagination,” she said, “All of this shocked Gao and made his heart extremely heavy”. Geng said she remembered the day Gao learned about the truth of the persecution. As he was reading through the materials, he had tears in his eyes the whole time which became red and swollen, she recalled. “From that day on, he was determined to take the responsibility to seek justice for this group of people,” Geng said.
Gao risked his life to go to Shandong, Hebei, and Northeast China to investigate the facts of the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners, she told the rally. In doing so he had realized that it was not only Falun Gong practitioners who were suffering through persecution, it was the whole of China. “The continued policy on the persecution of Falun Gong has affected many people in different professions in the society. It made them lose their humanity, lose their morals, … and the most fundamental values and basic judgments. This is a terrible thing and the most unfortunate thing for this nation,” Geng He said.
Geng He, who is also a Christian, finished with the words of Gao: ‘to end this nation’s sufferings, we must have people with high morals; Falun Gong practitioners have done it, we must do our part.” Geng He was not the only Christian speaking out in support of Falun Gong on the day.
Patricia Burkhardt, representing Church Women United, spoke of the persecution as a “vicious attack on people practicing a peaceful way of life.” She characterized the last decade of persecution as “one of the largest human tragedies that mankind has ever known.”
Reverend Patrick Mahoney, Christian Defense Coalition, said at the rally: “I stand in solidarity with every person who was ever brutalized.” Rev. Mahoney, who along with other member of his faith, went to Beijing just before Beijing Olympics. He told the rally had been arrested as he laid roses in Tiananmen Square but said it was no disgrace, but rather “an honor”, to be arrested and expelled from the country.
Last Updated Jul 20, 2009 Washington D.C.: Candle Light Vigil at the Washington Monument (Photos)
By Minghui reporter Feng Daosheng (Clearwisdom.net) On July 16, 1500 Falun Gong practitioners held a candle light vigil in front of the Washington Monument in memory of those tortured to death during 10 years of persecution. The Chinese characters for "Rectify the Fa" and the English words "Falun Dafa" were spelled out by the many hundreds of practitioners holding their candles, as shown below.
The candle light vigil Dr. Huang Zuwei, the organizer of the event, said that practitioners hold activities here every year at this time to expose the brutal persecution. More than 3000 deaths due to persecution have been confirmed in the last 10 years. Dr. Huang said: "When more people know the truth, the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) evil nature will be recognized, and the persecution will be stopped." Eighty-eight-year old Ms. Ma is from Chicago. "When I was 60, people said I looked like 80. After practicing Falun Dafa, people say I look like 60 now," Ms. Ma said: "The world would be more beautiful if everybody practiced 'Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance'. So, I came here to support these activities calling for an end to the persecution." Eighty-six-year old Mr. Zhou was a law professor in China. He has spent a lot of money on qigong, trying to heal his diseases, but none of them worked. "I was in very bad health when I was 50. I could not even walk by myself," Mr. Zhou said: "Falun Dafa renewed my life. But so many practitioners are being persecuted in China. So, of course, I want to come for the activities here." Jerome from Canada started practicing Falun Gong two years ago. When he was little, he wanted to go to the mountain and cultivate like a Chinese monk. "After practicing Falun Gong, I quit drinking. I cut my long hair. Now, I have a two-month-old baby with my wife," Jerome said: "I thank Falun Gong, which made me not so extreme. It balances my life and cultivation. I hope to tell Chinese people that I truly appreciate the rich Chinese culture, and I hope they can recognize the evil nature of the CCP."
Jerome from Canada Ms. Wang from Germany said one of her friends was a good student at Qinghua University, but he was sentenced to eight years because of his belief in Falun Gong. "I want to help to end the persecution," Ms. Wang said. Professor Sun Yanjun, a well-known religion and psychology scholar who publicly quit the CCP recently, came to support the activity. He believes that the reason that Falun Gong practitioners can keep their courage in the brutal persecution is because they believe in "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" Some people devote their lives to their belief, because there is something more valuable than life. Jonnane and her friends are tourists from Australia. She teaches yoga, so she was interested in Falun Gong meditation. The candle light vigil gave her a very peaceful feeling. They took a lot of photos. They were shocked when they learned about the persecution, and expressed their support for efforts to end it. Lesca was attracted to the music. He watched the peaceful vigil for a long time. He praised practitioners' belief and condemned the persecution. He expressed that he wants to learn more about Falun Gong. Cindy asked practitioners what was going on. When she learned about the truth, she said the evil nature of communism brings disaster to the world. She hopes that the free society and the U.S. Government will take more action to help, and to stop the communist party bringing further damage to the world. Cindy thanked practitioners and expressed her support before she left. Background Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a traditional Chinese spiritual discipline for mind and body. DC Rally Celebrates a New China By Gary Feuerberg Epoch Times Washington, D.C. Staff Jul 20, 2008
END COMMUNISM: A parade in Washington, D.C. on July 18 for supporting 40 million people quitting the Chinese Communist Party and affiliates toward ending Communism. (Chang Lei/The Epoch Times) WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is in a weakened state, and a new China—free and democratic—will soon emerge, according to the themes of the rally at the Washington Monument late in the morning on a very hot Friday afternoon, July 18. The large rally marks the passing of 40 million people who have quit the CCP or its affiliations. The speakers came from the many organizations that have formed in opposition to the suppression of freedom in China and its neighboring countries, North Korea, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. One of the banners said, “Support forty million people resigning from the Chinese Communist Party.” Dr. Dawei Gao, co-founder and president of the Global Service Center for Quitting the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) asserted that the natural disasters China is undergoing, referring to the earthquake in Sichuan, is an indication from heaven that the CCP is crumbling. About 2000 people, many of whom were Falun Gong practitioners from around the world, attended. Afterwards, at noon, they marched to Farragut Square, led by a 200 member band in blue and white uniforms, while a rousing drum contingent in yellow and red ancient costume brought up the rear. One banner said, “Stop CCP’s Tyranny / End CCP’s Nine Year Persecution of Falun Gong.” An evening candle-light vigil for those killed by the regime and for those still held in labor camps and prisons capped off the day. Perhaps the most dramatic moment came when Jun Wang, who is chairman of the China Democracy party World Union, announced that he had brought today the names—real names, not aliases—of 60 Chinese who had denounced the CCP. He was flanked by many of his supporters who each held their political party’s flag, modeled after the U.S. flag, with red and white stripes, and a blue section in the upper left corner with many stars surrounding one big star. Also, very moving was the singing of Courtney Dove, whose song she composed, Tuidang, Set Them Free, is based on the Chinese word, Tuidang, for “withdraw.” One line from the song is, “too many people misled,” referring to the wholesale propaganda the CCP engages in by its control of the media. Dr. Clive Ansley, a Canadian Human Rights attorney, who is the North American Chairman of the Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong in China, cannot understand why the Western media does not report on the persecution of Falun Gong, especially after the publication of Bloody Harvest by two Canadian attorneys, which gives “impeccable evidence” of the involuntary removal of vital organs of living Falun Gong practitioners. A “direct” genocide is going on now, said Ansley, with perhaps 100,000 Falun Gong practitioners killed on the operating table. “The authors David Matas—the leading human rights attorney in Canada—and David Kilgour, former Secretary of State for Far Eastern affairs—are unimpeachable sources,” Dr. Ansley said. “It is not coming from the National Enquirer or Fox News.” President Bush’s plan to attend the opening ceremony was also criticized. “He missed a one-time opportunity,” said Mr. Karma Zurkhang, former chairman of Tibetan-American Association. He said that the best estimates are that about 1,000 Tibetans were killed during the March 14, 2008 protests and around 5,000 are being held in custody. With China’s ascendency in world affairs and becoming an economic powerhouse and host of the 2008 Olympic Games, one might conclude that the rulers of China are secure in their position. But the speakers at this rally said the Olympics is just a show, like the Nazi’s 1936 Berlin Olympics, and the party structure is crumbling as the Chinese people learn about the history of the Party through the publication of the Nine Commentaries. Another theme at the rally is that now we can imagine China without the CCP. This idea is a new one for most Chinese. For example, in the forced-labor camps where hundreds of thousands of Chinese citizens are sentenced to labor without a trial, the CCP tries to indoctrinate their prisoners that China’s economic success in the world depends on the CCP, and that the two are inseparable. Even detainees learn to sing about this. Media censorship from the regime is manifested most recently by pressuring the Eutelsat, a European satellite operator, which was conveying New Tang Dynasty TV (NTDTV) signals to mainland China. NTDTV is the only Chinese language station that provides uncensored news to mainland China. Allegedly due to pressure from the regime, on June 16, Eutelsat cut off the station in the hope of courting favor with China just weeks before the Chinese Olympics. LITTLE BOY: A candlelight vigil at the Washington Monument on July 18 to commemorate Falun Gong practitioners who have been persecuted in the past nine-years. (John Yu/The Epoch Times) But the 40 million people resigning from the CCP or its affiliates would seem to indicate that Eutelsat is placing itself on the wrong side of history, said Shujia Gong, a columnist for the Chinese Epoch Times. “It’s a clear signal that the Chinese people are repudiating the CCP.” Referring to Eutelsat’s president and CEO, Guiliano Berretta, Mr. Gong said: “President Berretta is still trying his best to please the Chinese dictators by trading in Eutelsat principles of non-discrimination, equal access, and respect for media pluralism.” Pointing out the elaborate precautions the Chinese communist officials are making in preparation for the Olympics, Mr. Gong says: “…you can hardly tell if it is for a Game or for a war! And clearly, these security measurements are not targeting the terrorists, but ordinary Chinese people! President Berretta, the CCP is on the brink of collapse!” Some Falun Gong practitioners protested outside the U.S. Department of State in the late morning, informing officials of how the People’s Republic of China’s consulate in New York City, in Queen’s Flushing, is promoting and orchestrating pro-communist mobs to threaten persons volunteering for the Quit the CCP Center. The protest moved across from the White House in the late afternoon. A letter to President Bush from the Eastern US Buddha’s Study Falun Dafa Association was sent to the President and read at the protest outside the White House, urging the U.S. government and President Bush to take action on the ongoing hate crimes against adherents of Falun Gong in New York City. The Eastern US Buddha’s Study Falun Dafa Association said that Bush and his administration should consider immediately deporting Chinese Consul General Keyu Peng from the U.S. CANDLELIGHT: A candlelight vigil at the Washington Monument on July 18 to commemorate Falun Gong practitioners who have been persecuted in the past nine-years. (John Yu/The Epoch Times) Although only about 500 practitioners were expected because of meetings scheduled at the same time, 1,500-2,000 practitioners turned out to the candle-light vigil at the Washington Monument in the late evening. “This says a lot about the importance of the event and of commemorating those practitioners who have lost their lives in the nine-year persecution of Falun Dafa,” said Donna Ware, a local practitioner and an organizer of the event. A little different set up this year: Paper bags with votive candles spelled out "Righteous Law" in Chinese characters which were set off by a series of lit torches on either side. Opening remarks emphasized the greatness of practitioners who lost their lives safeguarding the “Truth” of the “Universe.” Falun Gong adherents mostly from Taiwan demonstrated in front of the Chinese embassy in the late afternoon. Suying Yi, a woman in her 30s, led the group of about 75 Taiwanese, who practiced the exercises and tried to create a peaceful atmosphere there. Ms. Yi herself was returning to the site for the fourth time when she comes to the Falun Gong annual conference in DC. Ms. Yi devotes much time in her homeland calling China and explaining to mainland Chinese about the CCP and how it has deceived them. Grace Yao and Donna Ware contributed to this report. Last Updated Jul 20, 2008 Becoming More Steadfast and Full of Hope after Ten Years of Efforts to End the Persecution (Photos)By Wu Sijing, Xu Jing and Su Qing (Clearwisdom.net) Nearly 2,500 Falun Gong practitioners from around the world gathered in Washington DC on July 17, 2009, prior to the date marking the tenth year of the start of the persecution of Falun Gong and Falun Gong practitioners' peaceful resistance. Following the rally and candlelight vigil held on July 16th, the practitioners took to the streets once again, holding a grand march to call upon more people to pay attention to the persecution of Falun Gong in China, clearly see the evil nature of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and stop the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong. The same lawn, the same steadfast spirit
Falun Gong practitioners began a large-scale group practice at 9:30 a.m. on the west lawn of Capitol Hill. Just past noon, a grand march spanning eleven blocks set off, with the Divine Land Marching Band, in blue and white uniforms, leading the procession. The march of several thousand people proceeded from the National Mall in front of Capitol Hill all the way to Liberty Square near the White House. Ten years ago, on July 20, 1999, the CCP started the persecution of Falun Gong. Overseas Falun Gong practitioners heard the news, and went to lodge their appeals and peaceful protests with Chinese embassies and local governments, clarifying the facts about Falun Gong and calling for an end to the persecution. At that time, practitioners throughout North America went to Washington DC and gathered on the west lawn of Capitol Hill--the very venue where the candlelight vigil was held on July 16 and the large-scale group practice of more than a thousand practitioners on July 17, 2009. Since then, at this time every year, practitioners from around the world gather together in Washington DC to hold rallies and marches, calling upon people from all walks of life to send out their righteous voices to stop the persecution. Many American people have stood up to support Falun Gong practitioners' efforts to end the persecution. Dr. Liu Yi, who took part in the rally on Capitol Hill ten years ago, said, "Ten years ago, in the burning sun, we silently and peacefully sat on the lawn in front of Capitol Hill, and then we did the exercises. At that time, our hearts were heavy, because so many practitioners in China were being arrested. We were also puzzled, having no idea what to do and what would happen next. "A practitioner held a banner made by a practitioner in China; the words on the banner were, 'As firm as a rock.' I was extremely moved upon seeing the banner at that time." Dr. Liu could not hold back her tears while speaking of this scene. Dr. Yang Sen, coordinator for the Mid-US Falun Dafa Association, recalled this moment ten years ago, "I arrived here on July 22 ten years ago. The CCP started the persecution of Falun Gong on July 20th and started large-scale arrests of practitioners on July 22. Then the CCP mobilized the entire state media tၯ start slandering Falun Gong. We were at a bit of a loss at the time, because we follow Truth-Compassion-Forbearance to be good people; we only teach others to do the exercises in our spare time. After practicing Falun Gong, we recovered from illnesses, and our moral standard is upgraded; all we did was to do good things for society, but all of sudden, we were labeled with so many bad names." Dr. Yang Sen, coordinator for the Mid-US Falun Dafa Association

Dr. Yang continued, "We were clear about one thing at that time: no matter what the CCP says, it is not true; we have our own personal experiences. We read a statement on the lawn. I remember one sentence clearly, that is, we, Falun Gong practitioners, will remain forever steadfast in cultivating Truth-Compassion-Forbearance. This sentence remains the same today. "Take a look at history; no persecution of religious beliefs in history, no matter how powerful the authorities were at the time, has ever succeeded. Ten years ago, nobody heard about the Divine Land Marching Band; today, the majestic Divine Land Marching Band led the march. Practitioners have used all peaceful means possible in these past ten years to tell people the true situation. I want to tell the CCP that Falun Gong practitioners will persevere all the way until the end, regardless of whether it is ten years or an even longer period of time," Dr. Yang said. Ten years of efforts to end the persecution, ten years of spreading the truth Since 1999, from pushing open the door to Capitol Hill for the first time, to traveling every corner of the world to spread the truth, Falun Gong practitioners have taken a path that is tough and harsh but with a firm determination to end the persecution. Dr. Liu Yi recalls, "After July 20, 1999, many of us went to Congress. We only wanted to let the US Congress know that there was such a big persecution taking place in China. People working in the offices of the Congress basically had no idea what Falun Gong was, neither did they know what had happened in China. We explained to them how we had benefited from practicing Falun Gong and that the practitioners in China were being arrested. Later, the Congress passed Resolution No.218 [condemning the persecution]." Dr. Yang Sen said in an interview, "The persecution is not only a persecution of Falun Gong practitioners, but also of their friends and relatives who have been implicated, the police officers who have been mislead by the lies of the CCP and done bad deeds, and the Chinese people who unreasonably hate Falun Gong [due to the CCP's negative propaganda]. All are victims of the persecution. If the CCP is not gone, there will be no hope for the Chinese nation." Dr. Liu Yi said before the end of the interview, "Today we are no longer at a loss as we were ten years ago. We know what our future will be, and also what the future of humanity will be after Falun Gong practitioners' efforts of truth clarification, so I am full of hope." The world shows concern, righteous people support Dafa The Falun Gong procession was vast, moving forward along Pennsylvania Avenue. People on the route were drawn to the spectacular scene of so many practitioners and banners, and stopped to watch. Many people who watched the grand march expressed their support for Falun Gong. Lawyer: I have paid attention to Falun Gong practitioners' peaceful resistance against the persecution for several years Kevin Fahey, a lawyer at the Supreme Court, heard the music and came out to watch the Falun Gong practitioners' march. Holding a little paper lotus flower with a bookmark that read, "Falun Dafa is great," he carefully read a Falun Gong truth-clarification flyer. When the reporter asked if he had heard about Falun Gong before, he answered that he had paid attention to the practitioners' peaceful resistance against the persecution for several years. "I really can't understand the persecution," said Mr. Fahey. "First, the persecution is terrible, and is against what this country [the U.S.] upholds. Second, I fail to understand what is wrong with the CCP; this [Falun Gong] seems to pose no threat, nor have any political agenda. Why does the CCP persecute Falun Gong?" Mr. Fahey feels that it is good to raise people's awareness of the persecution, and believes that pressure from the international community should play a role in putting an end to the persecution. Government officer of Korean descent: We don't like the Communist Party Peter came from Korea to the United Sates over 30 years ago, and works in a government department. He stood on the street, quietly watching the Falun Gong procession. He learned Chinese as a child, so he can understand the messages on the practitioners' banners and signs. Peter told the reporter that he had read a lot of related information, and has a favorable impression of Falun Gong. He said that it is good to protest the CCP's atrocities this way. "I don't like the Communist Party. I heard that the CCP tortures innocent people. Many people in China strive for freedom. I hope they can enjoy freedom as we do," Peter said. Staff member of the Treasury Department: It's good to voice belief Jerald works in the Treasury Department. He smiled while watching the Falun Gong practitioners' march. He said, "It's good that people voice their concern for their belief. It's good to protest against those unjust things happening in their countries. "In the past years, Falun Gong practitioners have held protests in downtown Washington DC, so I have paid attention to the persecution happening in China. When people exercise their freedom of belief and speech [in China], they are thrown into prison." Upon hearing about the CCP's organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners, Jerald said, "It's sad. I hope our government can take measures to help stop the persecution." Background Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a traditional Chinese spiritual discipline for mind and body. The practice involves slow, gentle movements and meditation. It is easy to learn, enjoyable to practice, and free of charge. Its principles are based on Truth, Compassion, and Tolerance. The practice began in China in 1992 and quickly spread by word of mouth throughout China and then beyond. Today, Falun Gong is practiced by over 100 million people in 60 countries. The main works of Falun Gong are available in over 30 languages. On July 20, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched a brutal persecution of Falun Gong. Since the start of the persecution, Falun Gong practitioners throughout the world have been constantly speaking out about the truth of Falun Gong and exposing the CCP's crimes in a tireless effort to end the persecution. Washington DC: Freedom for Falun Gong Rally at the National Mall Attracts Attention of People from Around the World (Photos)
By Li Jingfei
(Clearwisdom.net) More than 700 Falun Gong practitioners from around the world gathered on July 19, 2009 on the large lawn at the National Mall on Capitol Hill to do their exercises together.
Exercising in the burning sun, practitioners' peaceful scene attracted the attention of many tourists passing by. At the rally following the exercises, people of different nationalities played music, sang songs and gave speeches, calling upon the international community to show concern over the decade-long persecution of Falun Gong by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Xu Yin (left) and Bu Dongwei (right), who suffered persecution in China, came to DC to support the efforts to end the persecution Ms. Barbara Thompson, a resident of a small town in South Australia, took up Falun Gong seven and a half years ago. She said that this was the first time that she came to Washington DC to take part in such a large-scale activity. Ms. Thompson said, "I handed out Falun Gong truth-clarification flyers to people passing by, and they were happy to take them. Some people came to learn to practice the exercises. I'm pleased to see so many Falun Gong practitioners and see that Falun Gong is winning support and is warmly received." Sahar from Syria came to Washington DC to attend a meeting of the International Monetary Fund. She and her colleague from Uzbekistan heard about Falun Gong for the first time at the rally. After having learned what Falun Gong is all about and the persecution taking place in China, Sahar said, "I think the practice is very good. They do not oppose anybody, anything, or any government, but only cultivate themselves to be good people. I don't understand why the CCP does not allow the Chinese people to practice Falun Gong. In my view, the CCP's way of doing things is weird, and I'm indignant at their way of treating the people." Imed, who just graduated from his PhD courses, and his tutor came to Washington DC from Tunisia to attend a symposium at the Holocaust Memorial. They learned to practice Falun Gong on the spot. Imed said, "We feel great, I like it very much, a completely different feeling. We want to bring Falun Gong to our hometown." His tutor said, "I also believe that the cultivation of body and mind is inseparable. When our bodies calm down, our hearts will be at peace. I like this practice." Imed said that it is a shame that the CCP suppresses Falun Gong. He said, "I want the U.S. government to exert pressure on the CCP, and help these people to freely choose their belief. This practice is so peaceful, why don't they allow people to practice it?!" Mr. Eugene Wesper is a network engineer in the Washington area. He took many photos at the exercise spot, and said that he would paste them on his personal website. Mr. Wesper said that he had heard about Falun Gong, and also about the persecution of Falun Gong in China. He once saw photos of women Falun Gong practitioners being beaten and tortured in prison in China. He knew that these people were hurt. He said, "Although I can't do much, when I talk with others, and when they talk about China's economy, I will tell them what price they have paid for it and tell them what has happened in China." Mr. John Kusumi, president of the "China Support Network," learned about Falun Gong at the beginning of the CCP's persecution in 1999. He said that he has seen a great change over the past ten years. At the beginning of the persecution, only Falun Gong practitioners knew about Falun Gong, and few people in the outside world had heard about it. During Falun Gong practitioners' ten-year efforts of resisting the persecution, they have won support from more and more righteous people. Mr. Kusumi came to attend the rally in Washington DC from Connecticut, and brought his band to perform on the spot to support Falun Gong. Timothy Cooper, executive director of "International Human Rights Advocacy" said, "Ten years ago, the persecution of Falun Gong in China drew my attention. Human rights organizations from around the world take part in this rally to support Falun Gong, mainly because we all believe that it is a human rights issue. They [Falun Gong practitioners] should enjoy freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of belief and freedom to exercise. So in the past ten years, we have been supporting their basic freedom and human rights." Associate Professor Xu Yin from the Department of Civil Engineering at Qinghua University was detained by the CCP when he was in China. He successfully came to the U.S. last August after his release. This was the first time that he took part in the activities overseas to end the persecution. Talking about his feelings, Xu Yin said, "All of a sudden I came to the U.S. from the oppressive environment in China, and came to the capital of the U.S., the political center, to freely voice my thoughts and call for an end to the persecution. This is unimaginable. Especially since I came from China, from an evil environment to a free environment, I feel very relaxed. I also feel the responsibility on me, because many fellow practitioners in China are still suffering persecution, I should work hard to stop the persecution and rescue them. I can understand that kind of ordeal in China, because I was imprisoned before. They endure suffering at every moment. I'm quite clear, and I also want to try my best to rescue them." Falun Gong practitioner Bu Dongwei was detained over two years ago by the CCP and came to the U.S. at the end of 2008 with many people's help. Bu Dongwei worked at the Beijing Office of the U.S. Asia Foundation headquartered in San Francisco. He is in charge of a project dedicated to providing legal assistance and advice for migrant workers. Bu Dongwei, along with his wife and daughter, came to Washington DC to support the efforts to end the persecution. Bu Dongwei said, "Overseas Falun Gong practitioners' ten-year truth clarification efforts subdue the perpetrators who persecute Falun Gong in China. Under pressure, they at least restrain themselves on the surface. In 2000, I was detained in a forced labor camp for the first time. I was forced to package chopsticks in a dirty environment. I worked over ten hours every day, and I was not allowed to sleep if I could not complete the quota. In 2006, I was arrested again. I noticed that the forced labor camp authorities no longer ordered Falun Gong practitioners to pack chopsticks, though one could see chopsticks transported out of the camp every day, but non- practitioners did the work. So it can be seen that they are afraid of being exposed." Ms. Dai Zhizen and her daughter Chen Fadu came to take part in the rally in Washington DC once again. Fadu was still a little girl when Ms. Dai Zhizhen's husband, Chen Chengyong, was killed in 2001 in the persecution for remaining steadfast in Falun Gong. Eight years have now passed, and Ms. Dai and her daughter have traveled to over 40 countries calling for an end to the persecution. Ms. Dai said at the rally, "All mothers in the world want to give the best to their children, but in China, many children suffer pain like my daughter. Nobody sees them cry, and nobody hears their voice, they have no chance to speak. I want to stand up to voice their concerns, I hope that we can work together to end the persecution, and give these children a normal life." July 20, 2009 marked 10 years of Falun Gong practitioners' efforts to end the persecution. Practitioners from around the world held a series of activities to call for an end to the persecution. More than 3,000 Falun Gong practitioners gathered in Washington DC to hold four days of activities. Background Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a traditional Chinese spiritual discipline for mind and body. The practice involves slow, gentle movements and meditation. It is easy to learn, enjoyable to practice, and free of charge. Its principles are based on Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. The practice began in China in 1992 and quickly spread by word of mouth throughout China and then beyond. Its beneficial effects in uplifting an individual's physical, mental, and spiritual health, not to mention its positive influence in the community and society as a whole, have been undeniable. In fact, Falun Gong is practiced by over 100 million people in over 110 countries.
